Itinerary

Day 0–1

Arrival in Moshi, briefing & gear check; trek from Lemosho Glades to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2–3

Hike to Shira I, cross plateau to Shira II with acclimatization walk.

Day 4–5

Ascend via Lava Tower to Barranco, climb Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp.

Day 6–8

Trek to Barafu, midnight summit to Uhuru Peak, descend to Mweka Gate & return to Moshi.
Day 0-1

Arrival & First Steps into the Rainforest

Day 0 – Arrival in Moshi
Pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Your guide will brief you on the trek and check your equipment to ensure you have all the necessary mountain gear.
Accommodation: The Charity Hotel

Day 1 – Lemosho Glades (2100 m) → Mti Mkubwa Camp (2980 m)
After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Park Gate for registration. Begin trekking through lush rainforest until you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, where your tent awaits.

  • Hiking Time: ~4 hrs

  • Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 2-4

Shira Plateau & Acclimatization

Day 2 – Mti Mkubwa Camp → Shira I Camp (3500 m)
Cross the scenic plateau of grassy moorland and volcanic rocks with views of Kibo and Shira Plateau.

  • Hiking Time: ~4 hrs

Day 3 – Shira I Camp → Shira II Camp
A shorter and gentler trek with panoramic views of the Northern Ice Fields. Afternoon acclimatization walk before dinner.

  • Hiking Time: ~5 hrs

Day 4 – Shira II Camp → Lava Tower (4600 m) → Barranco Camp (3900 m)
Ascend into the alpine desert, reaching Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp for a dramatic sunset below the Barranco Wall.

  • Hiking Time: ~6 hrs

  • Accommodation: Barranco Camp

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 3-6

Barranco Wall, Karanga & Summit Prep

Day 5 – Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (4000 m)
Climb the Barranco Wall (4200 m) with stunning glacier views, then descend gently to Karanga Camp.

  • Hiking Time: ~4 hrs

Day 6 – Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp (4640 m)
A short trek with spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Arrive early for lunch and rest before the summit push.

  • Hiking Time: ~3 hrs

  • Accommodation: Barafu Camp

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 7-8

Summit Day & Descent

Day 7 – Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak (5895 m) → Mweka Camp (3100 m)
Midnight start with tea and cookies. Climb to Stella Point (5756 m) to watch sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. After photos, descend to Barafu Camp for lunch, then continue to Mweka Camp.

  • Hiking Time: ~14 hrs

Day 8 – Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate
Descend through the montane forest to Mweka Gate (~3 hrs). Complete park formalities, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-earned celebration.
