Itinerary

Day 0–1

Arrival in Moshi, trek from Lemosho Glades to Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Day 2–3

Cross Shira Plateau to Shira I & II Camps with acclimatization walk.

Day 4–5

Trek via Lava Tower to Barranco, climb Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp.

Day 6–8

Hike to Barafu, summit Uhuru Peak, descend via Mweka Camp to park exit.
Day 0-1

Arrival & First Trek Days

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi

  • Pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi.

  • Trek briefing and gear check by your guide.

  • Accommodation: The Charity Hotel

Day 1: Lemosho Glades → Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2100 m).

  • Registration, gear preparation, and trek start through lush rainforest.

  • Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2980 m).

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~4 hrs

Day 2-3

Across the Shira Plateau

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp → Shira I Camp

  • Trek over grassy moorland with volcanic rock formations.

  • Scenic views of Kibo and the Shira Plateau.

  • Overnight at Shira I Camp (3500 m).

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~4 hrs

Day 3: Shira I Camp → Shira II Camp

  • Shorter and gentler trekking day.

  • Views of northern ice fields from the mountain’s western side.

  • Afternoon acclimatization walk.

  • Overnight at Shira II Camp.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~5 hrs

Day 4-6

High Altitude Trek & Preparation for Summit

Day 4: Shira II Camp → Barranco Camp

  • Trek into alpine desert, ascend to Lava Tower (4600 m), then descend to Barranco Camp (3900 m).

  • Stunning views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~6 hrs

Day 5: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

  • Climb the iconic Barranco Wall (4200 m) and traverse to Karanga Camp (4000 m).

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~4 hrs

Day 6: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

  • Steady climb to Barafu Camp (4640 m) with panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

  • Early dinner and rest before summit night.

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~3 hrs

Day 7-8

Summit Day & Descent

Day 7: Barafu Camp → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

  • Midnight start; climb steep scree to Stella Point (5756 m) at sunrise.

  • Continue to Uhuru Peak (5895 m) – the highest point in Africa.

  • Descend to Barafu Camp for lunch, then to Mweka Camp (3100 m).

  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

  • Hiking Distance: ~14 hrs

Day 8: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Hotel

  • Descend through montane forest to Mweka Gate (~3 hrs).

  • Receive summit certificates and transfer back to hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

  • Celebration and relaxation!
