Itinerary

Day 0–1

Arrival in Arusha, briefing and gear check, then trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut through lush rainforest.

Day 2–3

Trek to Horombo Hut with views of Kibo and Mawenzi, spend extra day acclimatizing with hike to Zebra Rock.

Day 4–5

Cross the saddle to Kibo Hut, midnight summit to Uhuru Peak, descend via Kibo to Horombo Hut.

Day 6

Descend to Marangu Gate via Mandara, transfer to Moshi for celebration.

Day 0–1

Arrival & Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Arrival: Pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Your guide will brief you on the trek and check your mountain gear. Overnight and dinner at The Charity Hotel.

Day 1 Trek: After breakfast, depart around 8:00 am for Marangu Gate. Complete registration, then begin your 5-hour hike (9 km) to Mandara Hut through lush rainforest, spotting blue and Colobus monkeys along the way.

Day 2–3

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut & Acclimatization

Day 2 Trek: Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,700 m) over 4–6 hours. Enjoy panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

Day 3 Acclimatization: Spend an extra night at Horombo to improve summit success chances. Morning hike to Zebra Rock (~3 hours) followed by descent for lunch. Afternoon and evening for relaxation or short walks in the valley.

Day 4–5

Horombo to Kibo Hut & Summit to Uhuru Peak

Day 4 Trek: Hike through heathland into a lunar-like saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive at Kibo Hut for early dinner and rest before the summit push.
Hiking Distance: ~5 hrs

Day 5 Summit: Wake at 1:00 am to climb to Gilman’s Point (5,681 m) in 4–5 hours, catching sunrise over Africa. Continue 1.5 hours to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. After photos, descend to Kibo for lunch and rest, then continue to Horombo Hut for the night.

Day 6

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate & Departure

Descend from Horombo to Mandara Huts for lunch, then continue through rainforest to Marangu Gate. Return by vehicle to Moshi for a well-earned celebration.
